Application for Provisional Driving License
Welcome to this section of our website dedicated to Provisional Driving License applications.
If you don’t currently possess a driver’s license, you must first complete the D1 Application to later obtain a full British driver’s license.
D1 forms can be ordered online from the government website at https://www.gov.uk/apply-first-provisional-driving-licence. Alternatively, they are available at post offices and DVLA offices.
Using the D1 form, you can obtain:
- Provisional Driving License
- Full License
- Duplicate license
- New license due to health reasons
- New license after disqualification
- Renew your license
- Remove endorsements or suspension dates from your license
- Exchange your license
The current cost of a Provisional Driving License is £43.00. To exchange a license from the EU for a British license, it costs £50.00.
You can apply for a provisional driving license if you:
- Are a resident of the United Kingdom
- Meet the minimum age requirement
- Meet the minimum vision requirements
- Possess a valid UK/EU passport or another form of identification
- Can provide addresses where you have lived for the last three years.
DVLA will send your driving license to you within three weeks of receiving your application. However, it may take longer if DVLA needs to verify your health or personal information.
